Auckland art lovers don’t need to travel to the other side of the world to see the masterpieces of modern art.

Auckland Art Gallery Toi O Tamaki is hosting an exhibition showcasing some of the most celebrated names in art, among them Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Auguste Renoir, Rene Magritte and Andy Warhol.

The exhibition, from The National Gallery of Scotland (NGS), features works representing the major art movements of the mid-19th to the mid 20th centuries.

Degas to Dali is important for Auckland in two respects – it is the first major international exhibition to be held at the Auckland Art Gallery since its recent redevelopment and it also gives Aucklanders a very rare opportunity to experience some important works that have shaped the course of modern art.

Degas to Dali takes a chronological approach, beginning with ground-breaking works from the French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist periods, moving through Cubism, Surrealism, German Expressionism to post-World war II and American Pop Art.

Tickets for this exhibition may be purchased in advance or from the gallery during the exhibition.
