Everyone knows the expression “to wish upon a star”, but what about wishing upon a wing?

That’s exactly what Aucklanders are being given the opportunity to do this Christmas season with an art installation at Wynyard Quarter’s Silo Park.

Organised by the Auckland City Mission as part of its annual Christmas appeal, the artwork consists of three “wishing trees” made from lengths of white rope with angel wings on them. People can buy a pair of wings at $2 each on which to write a Christmas wish. The Mission aims to sell 30,000 wishes for the appeal.

This project gives Aucklanders an opportunity to make a tangible difference to the lives of people in need. Christmas can be a stressful time for people those without financial means and lacking family support and these donations will enable them to buy the necessities and maybe even some Christmas treats.

So if you’ve not yet made a Christmas wish, head down to Silo Park now to make yours and make a difference.
